Serge Lutens’ Magic Perfume

Referring to the title of this post, I was already a believer in the power of Serge Lutens’ creations, and no this new scent that was presented to a small group of Paris bloggers, is not in actuality « magic »…but… it could be, almost. It has incredible powers of transformation, and sparks vibrant images of my imagination.

The boutique at Palais Royal where we were invited after hours, is a place I have indulgently and luxuriously become opulently used to, although it never ceases to onvoke awe and appreciation in me and heighten my creative senses. It is such an intriguing place. Soulaimane, who hosts these soirées, is the ever gracious and elegant host as well as a passionate believer (or converter) in the scents of the magician Lutens. He offers us champagne refreshments and little cakelettes to make us feel at ease and welcomed. And then he launches into in-depth explanations of all the scents that come about in conversation, as they are on display atop the table in front of us. He allows the conversation to ease its way around the different perfumes and olfactive opinions that are invoked by each of us present. And once we have been gently cradled into the atmosphere and universe of Serge Lutens perfumes, then he comes about with his explanation of the origins of the new creation.

My Current Perfume Preferences

My Current Perfume Preferences
My current scent craves and faves are some that you have seen before here on my blog, like Auto portrait by Olfactive Studio, and Petite Chérie by Annick Goutal, and I do still immensely enjoy Été by Laggridore. I find these scents to be sexy yet soft. They seem to enhance my appeal rather then be the appeal, which is what I believe perfume really should do. I can’t think of anything more faux pas in terms of beauty, than a woman who fills an entire room with her own perfume that she has sprayed on in incredibly offensive amounts. My scents are intimate, and personal, and are meant for the delight of two people, me, and Chéri, only. And while I am still crazy for all of these scents… I have encountered a new one that has been added to my collection of olfactive delights : Eau de Lingerie, by Guerlain. It has become one of the scents I can’t get enough of. I spray it on EVERYTHING : my clothes, my scarves, my pillows… It is a scent to be used on fabrics, not skin. And to me it smells like the softest, most delightful hug ever. There is a tenderness to this scent, that is so gentle and discreet that I tend to reapply more than once a day.
My collection of perfumes is becoming rather fancy and fun yet remains rather unique, I like to think anyway…
And then there are the perfumes I love on Chéri!

I will let you in on my three favorites…

I got him Serge Noir for Christmas. It’s my new obsession on him. It has the slightest hint of sweetness infused into a wooded fragrance. Drives me crazy! (In a good way). ;-)
And of course I still love his Gris Clair by Serge Lutens as an every day scent. It’s a fresh yet warm scent.
For occasional evenings, more in the warmer months, I love smelling Duel by Annick Goutal on him. It’s slightly flirty and entirely elegant.

What are your favorite scents? And what does your chéri wear?

Tell me in the comments below.

La Vierge de Fer by Serge Lutens

I recently received a press release, one of the most stunning and intriguing press releases I have ever received, for his new scent which is coming out this month of September. It consists of a text, a poem really, written by the-artist-of-all-things that is Mr. Lutens. And an image, of the perfume bottle. I haven’t even smelled it yet, but I know I will find it completely enthralling. Why… Because it inspired this breath-taking piece by the master of sensation and scents : Read more →

New Year’s Style & Shine Look

ShopStyleNewYears

Some fun ideas for a super chic and shiny New Year’s Eve party style, if I had oodles of cash to spend on a swanky outfit!

I did toss in one of my favorite cosmetic/perfume artists : Serge Lutens. The « à la nuit » eau de parfum hinting to the incredible Moon Drop pearl and diamond earrings by Renee Lewis. And then a little edginess mixed in with the snakeskin Kotur clutch and the Roberto Cavalli crystal snake ring. And well, every girl needs a little sparkle head-to-toe at an end-of-the-year party, so I threw in some sparkly soled Le Silla peep-toes, a simple yet beautiful single pearl and white gold bangle by Melanie Georgacopoulos and a pearl shine Diorific nail lacquer.  And of course….the dress! A Kaufman Franco asymmetrical draped stunner all made of sequins.

Now if this outfit doesn’t make you glow, I don’t know what will!

See more of my styled outfits at my ShopStyle page…

I will not however be wearing anything nearly as fabulous as this gorgeous ensemble. Chéri and I were planning on joining my in-laws at a country home of a good family friend, but as Chéri has been sick for 3 days and if he doesn’t feel better tomorrow, we may just stay in Paris and hang out together at home in our PJ’s and sip home made hot chocolate (spiked with rum of course). And that is just fine with me too!

My perfumes

I am a bit of a perfume junkie. If you have been followinng this blog for any significant length of time you may have figured that out yourself. I think I have a slightly accute sense of smell and an infidèle addiction to perfumes. But there are a handful of scents that I truly, truly  love, and will hold onto for many years to come… They are quite a varied collection, with a different mood and humeur for different days, seasons and desires.

Annick Goutal, Petite Chérie

Annick Goutal created in 1998 a perfume dedicated to her daughter Camille, and called it Petite Chérie. (« Little Sweetie »). This perfume embodies to me, that ultime desire for a delightful snuggle, and soft, happy and wonderful hug from someone who loves you dearly. The perfume is floral and sweet with a strong hint of pear, but does not have that stickiness to its sweet side. It smells more like a fresh juicy pear that you just bit into. A discrete perfume. It is the smell of pure bliss. Read more →

Nécessaire de Beauté – Serge Lutens

P1160133
P1160034
Recently I was graciously invited to join a small panel of bloggers for a presentation of the Serge Lutens make-up line and what he calls the « nécessaire de beauté ». Beauty essentials. I love the Serge Lutens boutique at Palais Royal and have purchased and tested several of his perfumes. I love his work for its originality, it’s search for artistry with a palette of scents, and the way his perfumes can whisk me away somewhere else or invoke a striking emotion. So, of course I was curious to discover what he can do with make-up.

Read more →

Keep a clone in Paris

I think Rick Owens really loves Paris. He’s always here! Or at least it looks like he is. LOL!

I was showing a colleague who was in town the Serge Lutens boutique at the Palais Royal galleries, and as we were waiting for the perfume to develope on his arms (he tested several), we strolled around the covered gallery to window-shop (or lèchcer les vitrines si vous voulez). As we pased by the Rick Owens boutique we, looked through the glass and were surprised to see…Rick Owens himself! He was standing up on a shallow podium, and I assumed they were doing some kind of photo shoot…. he was standing really still. Too still. « He’s not blinking » I said to my colleague. We waited a minute. Then decided that it was sure, Rick Owens was made of wax.
RickOwens_wax
I find this rather hilarious, that he has a wax statue of himself in the boutique. I supose it is to show shoppers how to wear the clothing? But what I really want to know is if they add tatoos on the wax statue if Rick gets a new one…? Hahaha!

Serge Lutens – a voyage for the senses

P1030144

There is a place where you can take a trip of sensations, olfactory voyages down memory lane or places yet to be discovered.

P1030142
Tucked away in the gallery boutiques of the Palais Royal, Serge Lutens hosts a magical journey in his boutique at the Shiseido shop. This place, conceptualized by Serge Lutens himself,is unique in the world, and the only place that sells his exclusive line :

Rich with colors and sensuality, these liquid elixirs come from classic and pure elements, that are married with care and creativity to the imagination of Mr. Lutens. And they do bring your imagination on a trip…somewhere… Come in and test these delicately concocted scents, each one unique, each one containing the recollection of places past or things yet to be seen, mysteries and memories, longings and luxurious possessions, these scents hold the promise of sensation.

P1030145Smell, test, describe, reminisce, wait, smell again, wonder, wander, indulge, return, test, savor, dream…

Serge Lutens…he starts out at 14 years old, in a chic hair salon in Paris, where he dolls up his friends, and photographs them… this gains him a leg up from Vogue who hires him to do make and hairstyles for their magazine, and then Dior stakes their claim on him, asking him to create a line of luxury make-up… he continues his photography and exposes it in New York and other museums around the world, he makes movies, he becomes a nez, a perfume creator, a marketing expert, an interior designer…what DOESN’T he do?!? A creative person by nature, he finds sensuality everywhere. You can find it at 142, Galerie de Valois, 75001 Paris
