Each Fashion Week, I aways try to push myself out of my comfort zone.  I either try to add new pieces to my wardrobe, or I wear colors that I have never worn before, or I try to discover new brands.  Living in New York, I have had access to see a lot of brands but for many of them I have never even dared to go in the boutiques.  How I stayed away from Zadig & Voltaire as long as I did is a mystery to me till this very moment.

Zadig & Voltaire Paris

Now, here in Paris, I’m studying Fashion, but in America, I studied French Literature. I read Montesquieu, Baudelaire, Zola, Sartre, and I read Voltaire.  If you were wondering, Zadig & Volatire is a reference to the literary icons.  They are a trendy and quite edgy brand that helps to find a very chic Parisian medium between edge and elegance.  Continue reading Vu dans Vogue: Candide Bag Release By Zadig & Voltaire

Paris Fashion Week : FW15 Augustin Teboul

Article by Charles Gillman

Here I am sitting on my sofa, with the sun beaming through the window and the cat is passed out on the floor. I seriously know how she feels! It’s a few days after Paris fashion week, as well as after having quite a few 3:30AM wake up calls for clients having sun rise photo shoots last week, I was in the mood for a few days of hibernation at home. Last Monday I went to see Melissa at home in her perfectly Parisian apartment for tea, macarons, and baby talk… I’m pretty sure a baby could talk better then me at the moment *slowly gets off the sofa and sways towards the coffee machine…*

Where was I, oh yeah, so a little tea and all things twee took my mind off an eventful work schedule. Melissa had an invite for the Augustin Teboul show that was being showcased at one of my favourite hotels in Paris, L’Hôtel Meurice, so I obviously couldn’t say no!

Antonio Ortega Haute Couture SS15 – Urban Impression-ism

A captivating collection to say the least. Designer Antonio Ortega, born in Mexico, began his love affair with couture and fashion at the tender age of 8, and throughout his career has always been in search for that which hasn’t been created yet. He certainly has infused an incredible amount of energy

The mother-son team from Thailand have created their own brand together since 2009, but couture has been a family tradition for much longer than that. Charles Gillman and Men’s Fashion Week Adventures

Article by (British Expat and Makeup Artist) Charles Gillman

It was Fall/Winter 2015/16 men’s fashion week in Paris. Despite the fact that fashion was something I never seemed to struggle with in Paris, the men was something that I wasn’t managing to master after four years in the city of lights. Fair enough I had tailored my wild Londoner ways to the Parisian chic and ditched the floral shoes that I used to wear running around the east end on a Saturday night, and the chunky chains with heavy eye makeup that I would take out for a spin in the west end. I’d managed that, and my now-wardrobe consisted of grey and black and level-headed bits and pieces that made one still look chic, without welcoming any unwanted looks of dismay in the metro, ‘colour! Who does he think he is’

It was a Saturday afternoon and whilst I was mourning the end of yet another male misunderstanding, I realised I should check the time for my invitation to the Monsieur Lacenaire show. The invitation said four o’clock and it was……… four o’clock! Oh my lord, I could have sworn it was at five as I had written it in my diary. I threw on some kind of outfit that resembled a mime (without the beret) and Paris marathoned myself to the closest metro station. Continue reading Charles Gillman and Men’s Fashion Week Adventures

Easy and Trendy Bogger Style

Fashion week is always a hectic time for serious fashion bloggers. Long hours, lots of travel back and forth to the venues and not much time to take care of yourself, all while needing to look trendy and fashion forward. Not always easy to feel comfortable in these kinds of situations.
But I have a solution for you! Let’s call it the « basics and bangles » way of packing for your fashion week travels.
Here are the tips to keep you smiling and comfortable as you finagle a way to look totally deserving of that front row seat you just snagged when no one was watching… (yeah I know what it’s like!)

Oscar Carvallo Couture FW2014

Summer was here, and didn’t this Brit know it! Anything generally above ten degrees celsius sends me into a broad-spectrum decline of complaining how unbearably sweltering it is and re-sighting dramatically about how I may not make it to the fall, by falling face first on to a thirty degree pavement. I was already looking forward to the fall, it’s my much-loved time of year as the temperatures drop, the lights around Paris come on earlier and there are abundances of leaves on the ground, Just in case I drop face first.

So, what better way to get in the mood than to go to an haute couture show by Oscar Carvallo with his new collections for fall/winter 2014. Recently I’d become single again, and getting out and about mingling with some fashionistas was just what the heartbreak doctor had ordered. He’d also ordered that I adopt a cat called Willow and that I started reading a book called ‘Good Husband Material’… Yes, I have to hide the front cover when I sit on the metro, however the only first-rate husband material that I was managing to unearth in the so called ‘city of love’ was 100g of chocolate every night and a Starbucks by the river everyday. They were dependable, I knew what I was getting, and I kind of knew that they weren’t good for me. Sounds like the ideal husband, no?

After going through a hard time in life, sometimes you need to take a few steps back, rediscover who you are, and integrate the old you with the new you. That is exactly what I did after coming back to Paris after a great loss in my life and spent some time with my greatest loves : my friends, crêpes, night walks along the cobblestone streets of le Marais and fashion! It is my favorite time of the year in Paris : Haute Couture Fashion Week (woooo!!!!!! confetti!). Going to a fashion show/presentation in my opinion is the most exciting thing in the world. It can be compared to opening Christmas presents, you never know what you’re going to find inside, and this show was almost like a Christmas present to me. Christmas in July!
