Defined Moment – Haute Couture SS15 – The Wedding Collection

For all the past seasons that I have been invited to the presentation of Defined Moment, I have been unable to go, and have had one of my contributors attend. Finally this season I was free, and am so glad I got to see this collection for myself. It was breathtaking!

A captivating collection to say the least. Designer Antonio Ortega, born in Mexico, began his love affair with couture and fashion at the tender age of 8, and throughout his career has always been in search for that which hasn’t been created yet. He certainly has infused an incredible amount of energy

Charles Gillman and Men’s Fashion Week Adventures

It was Fall/Winter 2015/16 men’s fashion week in Paris. Despite the fact that fashion was something I never seemed to struggle with in Paris, the men was something that I wasn’t managing to master after four years in the city of lights. Fair enough I had tailored my wild Londoner ways to the Parisian chic and ditched the floral shoes that I used to wear running around the east end on a Saturday night, and the chunky chains with heavy eye makeup that I would take out for a spin in the west end. I’d managed that, and my now-wardrobe consisted of grey and black and level-headed bits and pieces that made one still look chic, without welcoming any unwanted looks of dismay in the metro, ‘colour! Who does he think he is’

It was a Saturday afternoon and whilst I was mourning the end of yet another male misunderstanding, I realised I should check the time for my invitation to the Monsieur Lacenaire show. The invitation said four o’clock and it was……… four o’clock! Oh my lord, I could have sworn it was at five as I had written it in my diary. I threw on some kind of outfit that resembled a mime (without the beret) and Paris marathoned myself to the closest metro station. Read more →

Luis Buchinho PFW SS15

Pastels and purple hues, mesh and asymetrics, Luis Buchinho wanted a fun carefree flirty collection for Spring 2015. The show I attened in September  translated to me as sort of a fashion « multi-pass ».

Oscar Carvallo Couture FW2014

Summer was here, and didn’t this Brit know it! Anything generally above ten degrees celsius sends me into a broad-spectrum decline of complaining how unbearably sweltering it is and re-sighting dramatically about how I may not make it to the fall, by falling face first on to a thirty degree pavement. I was already looking forward to the fall, it’s my much-loved time of year as the temperatures drop, the lights around Paris come on earlier and there are abundances of leaves on the ground, Just in case I drop face first.

So, what better way to get in the mood than to go to an haute couture show by Oscar Carvallo with his new collections for fall/winter 2014. Recently I’d become single again, and getting out and about mingling with some fashionistas was just what the heartbreak doctor had ordered. He’d also ordered that I adopt a cat called Willow and that I started reading a book called ‘Good Husband Material’… Yes, I have to hide the front cover when I sit on the metro, however the only first-rate husband material that I was managing to unearth in the so called ‘city of love’ was 100g of chocolate every night and a Starbucks by the river everyday. They were dependable, I knew what I was getting, and I kind of knew that they weren’t good for me. Sounds like the ideal husband, no?

After going through a hard time in life, sometimes you need to take a few steps back, rediscover who you are, and integrate the old you with the new you. That is exactly what I did after coming back to Paris after a great loss in my life and spent some time with my greatest loves : my friends, crêpes, night walks along the cobblestone streets of le Marais and fashion! It is my favorite time of the year in Paris : Haute Couture Fashion Week (woooo!!!!!! confetti!). Going to a fashion show/presentation in my opinion is the most exciting thing in the world. It can be compared to opening Christmas presents, you never know what you’re going to find inside, and this show was almost like a Christmas present to me. Christmas in July!

Luis Buchinho AW14 Fashion and Illusion

Paris Fashion Week AW14

Post by Paul Waters

It’s a Monday evening and I am standing in line at the Icram center a space more commonly used for music and performing arts, it also forms part of the Centre Pompidou complex. For those of you who don’t know the Centre Pompidou is a very controversial building in Paris that houses and hosts modern art and exhibitions on a yearly basis. It seems a very unlikely venue for a fashion show with its cold white walls, concrete floors and industrial feel. But there I stand clutching my ticket to Luis Buchinho’s show being slowly led by the crowds into the foyer of just such a building. The room is buzzing with excitement fashion lovers appear to be adorned with their most, craziest yet stylish of outfits. Jewels and sequins, textures and colors seem to set the cold room on fire when a set of doors swing open and we are led down into the depths of Paris. Read more →

Fatima Lopez AW2014 – Ad Naturam

Post By Charles Gillman.

It was a Wednesday afternoon under yet an additional grey Paris day. There I was on the Faubourg Saint Honoré collecting my ticket from Melissa for the Fatima Lopez show, I was also in the middle of having a casual nervous breakdown with regards to what to wear, Spanish designer, on the Champs Elysées… At the Lido! “JUST wear something sexy, her styles are always very WOW and sexy!” Melissa said interrupting my anxiety attack that I was oh so enjoying. ‘Sexy… Me? Are you joking?’ I thought to myself. It seemed as if the enormous glasses and the scarf that concealed Charlie’s chicken neck would have to stay home in the thirteenth district for the morning.
